TRAINING - Conventional Health & Safety

Regular safety training is given to all DML employees to ensure that the company's standards for health and safety are well known and are consistent across the organisation. Courses range from mandatory fire safety training, which all employees must attend, through to specialist courses dealing with topics such as risk assessment and rescue & recovery from confined spaces. Safety training courses are held on each working day and can be arranged outside of normal working hours if required.

In 2005, over 7000 training contacts were made by the Health and Safety Department. In addition to the existing call-up courses, new courses included: Drugs and Alcohol Policy and Radio Frequency Hazards.

DML's industrial safety section, in conjunction with the HR Department, developed and provided a safety induction programme for new DML employees at Appledore shipyard. The week's safety training included manual handling, fire safety, hot work, crane operations and abrasive wheels.
