DML has the only comprehensive engineering facility in the Westcountry which is linked to the national rail network.

DML has been overhauling IC125 power units on a running contract basis since 1988. Both diesel engine and generator are overhauled in-house and then reassembled for a combined running test before delivery. Sulzer and Ruston locomotive power units have also been overhauled.

A range of associated sub-assemblies is overhauled on a regular basis, such as turbo-blowers, fuel injector systems, generator units, starter motors and other items of electrical equipment. DML can also handle an immense range of valves and pumps, hydraulic systems, piping and wiring upgrades, catering galley equipment, air conditioning plant, switch-gear, electronic and radio equipment.

DML has moved into bogie overhaul and is now working on IC 125 power and trailer bogie overhauls. The bogies are stripped and the frame is checked and repaired as necessary. All components are overhauled, either in-house or by contractors and the traction motors are overhauled in our own workshops. On reassembly, each bogie is checked against the original specification and given functionality tests before delivery.

DML has a highly-regarded Composites Group which specialises in innovative applications of advanced composite materials, such as strengthening tunnel roof structures for London Underground. DML's composite materials expertise is also used in the repair of GRP nose mouldings from IC125 power cars.
