A Top-level consortium of MP's, business leaders and councillors from around the South West joined DML last month to launch a combined campaign to help secure the future of Devonport Naval Base.
The move is in response to the Government's current Naval Base Review of the country's three Naval Bases - Devonport, Portsmouth and Faslane. |

FRIGATE REFIT IS ALL SET TO ROLL ...
The refit of HMS Cumberland, a Type 22 Broadsword Class frigate was awarded to the DML Group this month by the Defence Logistics Organisation. It will start next month and provide work for around 300 people over a year.

ANOTHER BIG LANDMARK ...
Another important landmark in DML's and Devonport Naval Base's Warship Support Modernisation Initiative (WSMI) partnership was achieved last month with the integration of staff from the customer - the MoD Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO) - into DML's Fleet Time Support Group (ships) [FTSG (ships)] offices. It makes the Group a centralised 86-strong waterfront enginering support facility for the Navy's operational surface ships worldwide. |

PIONEERING WORK GIVES MANCHESTER A TUNE-UP...
The DML Group is carrying out two first of class fits on a Royal Navy Type 42 destroyer. HMS Manchester is the first Type 42 to have a new transom flap fitted to provide improved performance under power.

ALBION FINISHES WITH A FLOURISH...
An intense eight-month capability upgrade at Devonport carried out during Fleet time for the Navy assault ship, HMS Albion, finished with a flourish this month when the ship was ready to sail 10 days ahead of the programme set for DML's Fleet Time Support Group (ships) [FTSG (ships)].
Alliance could be the way forward for ship support...
DML is helping to explore alternative styles of commercial support for the Royal Navy's Surface Ship Fleet in the future. |

BIG NEW DEAL ON WEAPONS...
DML has been appointed Prime Contractor to provide total support services for the Navy's rapid-fire Phalanx close-in weapon systems. This prestigious 10-year contract is worth approximately £30 million.

A spectacular display in the Atlantic Ocean last month successfully tested the firing capability of HMS Vanguard's ballistic missile system. The test launch of an unarmed missile was the final part of sea trials before her return to operational service after refit with DML.

NOTCHING UP TWO MAJOR MILESTONES...
Staff
at DML Devonport met the flood up target for the nuclear powered submarine HMS Talent. She was successfully undocked several days later after two years of intensive work under cover during the main part of her refit.
The Type 22 frigate HMS Cornwall, looked smart when she came out of dock, after being newly painted. The surface ship team pulled off an amazing feat by completing a massive package of additional structural repairs in record time whilst in dock. |

Appledore says it's great to be back!
That's the verdict as work gets underway at DML Appledore, where
skilled tradesmen who lost their jobs when the former Appledore Shipyard
closed last year, are back in action doing what they like best - building
ships. |

Work to extend the life of survey vessel HMS Roebuck starts this Autumn.

DML won the third consecutive ship contract put out to tender by the
MoD - the refit of Type 22 frigate HMS Cornwall. However, subsequent
contracts for support work for HMS Kent and HMS Edinburgh have been
awarded to Rosyth.

HRH the Duke of York toured the luxurious 77-metre superyacht under
build at Devonport when he visited DML recently. |

of her DP2 and her Sea Trials have been carried out in record time. |

HMS Vanguard is back afloat. Blue skies and sunshine welcomed HMS Vanguard
when she was flooded up. DML met the planned flood-up date last month.
THE SINKING OF HMS SCYLLA...
FTSG carried out conversion work on Scylla for Plymouth's National Marine
Aquarium. The ship has now been sunk off Whitsand Bay. Full colour pictures

SUPERYACHT TAKES SHAPE...
The largest superyacht built in Britain for almost 50 years - following
on from Royal Yacht HMS Britannia, completed in 1954 - is now in DML's
Frigate Reflex Complex.
FASLANE ON THE FAST TRACK...
DML earned accolades recently for its top notch work on the Vanguard
Class submarines at Faslane Naval Base.
Major navigational updates on HMS Vigilant - also carried out on HMS
Vengeance - were rated as top quality jobs by the MoD. DML staff were
also praised for completing this skilful work on time and to budget. |

MAJOR COUP WITH SHIPS PACKAGE...
DML has won the only two ship contracts put out this to competitive
tender this year. They are the Second Docking Periods for Type 23 frigate
HMS Lancaster and Type 22 frigate HMS Chatham and cover general maintenance
and overhaul work.
A JOB WELL DONE...
HMS Gloucester was returned to the Fleet in July after refit in Devonport.

Agency and the Navy, show DML met targets in the three main areas -
quality, budget and delivery. |
